Hyssop

Botanical name: Hyssopus officinalis
Common name: Hyssop
Part used: Herb

The name Hyssop is derived from the Greek azob meaning ‘a holy herb’, so named as it was once employed in the cleaning of sacred places. As with many herbs, Hyssop has a variety of actions which act synergistically to achieve its therapeutic effect. Hyssop helps to expel mucus from the respiratory tract, reduces fevers and has a mild sedating effect. These combined actions make it an ideal herb for the treatment of chest complaints such as coughs, especially in children.
